Last year in August, filmmaker Karan Johar announced his next directorial project, Takht. The magnum opus that will be set in the Mughal era has been in the news because of its spectacular star cast. Featuring Ranveer Singh, Vicky Kaushal, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Janhvi Kapoor, Anil Kapoor and Bhumi Pednekar in lead roles, the period drama was scheduled to go on floors this year, but now recent reports have suggested that the shoot of the movie will kick start early next year.
Touted to be an epic battle for the majestic Mughal throne, Takht will have Ranveer playing the role of Shahjahan’s son Dara Shikoh and Vicky will be seen as Aurangazeb. While Kareena will be portraying Shahjahan’s (Anil Kapoor) daughter Jahanara Begum and Alia will be apparently paired opposite Vicky.
Talking about Takht’s shoot schedule, “The film kicks off in February with a start-to-finish schedule. Being a period film, the technical team is presently focused on the sets and locations and the script, while also deciding on the diction and mannerism of the characters. Work on the visual effects will take place simultaneously with the shoot so the film is ready on time.”
Karan will be hosting acting workshop with diction and body language coaches to help the cast get into the skin of their characters, everyone has a distinct look in Takht.
“Every character has been inspired by history and since Ranveer has dabbled in the genre a few times in the past, from playing Peshwa Bajirao to Allauddin Khilji, the goal is to make him look different from what he has already done,” adds the source.
Initially, Takht was scheduled to hit the screens in 2020 but, now it seems that the release date will be pushed ahead because of the delay in shoot and the fact that the movie is being made on such a large scale.
