BJP’s religious cell last-minute shock to “Bheeshma”: Demand title change

After entertaining the viewers with a romantic teaser and a couple of foot-tapping numbers, the makers of Nithiin’s upcoming film Bheeshma have recently unveiled the theatrical trailer to a positive response from netizens. Packed with romantic moments, high-octane action, interesting premise and a social message regarding organic crops, the film seemed like more than just a rom-com. Amid decent expectations and good pre-release hype, the Venky Kudumula directorial starring Rashmika Mandanna as the leading lady is all set for a massive release on February 21.

However, in what can be termed as a last-minute jolt to the makers, Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) religious cell has raised objections over the title of the film and demanded the producers to immediately change it. “In the Indian epic Mahabharata, Bheeshma was a bachelor. Using his name for a lover boy hero and title for a commercial film will hurt the sentiments of Hindus,” said the members of the cell.

They also warned the makers of severe consequences like stalling the film and going to High Court if they don’t change the title. The producers are yet to respond to the issue.

Malgudi Days fame Anant Nag is making a comeback to Telugu cinema with Bheeshma. While the music of the film is composed by Sagar Mahati, the cinematography is handled by Sai Sriram and editing by Navin Nooli. It is slated for a massive release on February 21.
