For those who have watched the Tamil version of Sridevi’s critically-acclaimed 2012 film English Vinglish, the cameo appearance by Kollywood superstar Ajith must have surely not gone unnoticed. The legendary actress, whose untimely demise sent shockwaves through the country last year, had apparently expressed her wish to her filmmaker husband Boney Kapoor that Ajith stars in a Tamil movie made by him.
Cut to seven years later, Ajith is starring as the male lead in Nerkonda Paarvai, the Tamil remake of the 2016 Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu-starrer Pink, backed by Boney Kapoor. Not only that, they are subsequently doing another film together, which is slated for an April 10 release next year.
On Tuesday morning, Boney Kapoor took to his social media handle to share that he feels ‘truly blessed’ and that he has ‘managed to fulfil his wife Sridevi Kapoor’s dream’ ahead of the premiere show of Nerkondaa Paarvai which is scheduled to take place in Singapore at 9 am.
He wrote, “I am truly blessed 9am IST today Premiere Show of @nerkondapaarvai will start in Singapore. I have managed to fullfil my wife Sridevi Kapoor’s dream. It couldn’t have been possible without the support of #AjithKumar #HVinoth, entire cast & technicians. I shall always cherish this”
Last year in December, Boney Kapoor was quoted in a report as saying, “While working together with Ajith for English Vinglish, Sridevi had expressed her desire that Ajith does a Tamil film for our home production. Nothing exciting came up till one day last year, Ajith suggested remaking Pink in Tamil. She immediately agreed with him as she thought it was most appropriate and timely film to make and Ajith would bring all the elements required to make it into a great Tamil film.”
