Ever since ‘Chhapaak’, directed by Meghna Gulzar, released, it has been garnering a lot of appreciation. The film, starring Deepika Padukone and Vikrant Massey in the lead roles, highlights the issue of acid attacks. Deepika plays Malti, an acid-attack survivor in the film. Her character has been inspired by Laxmi Agarwal, a real-life acid-attack survivor, who is an activist.
The success of the film, and the critical acclaim it has won, has made director Meghna Gulzar’s mother, senior actress Rakhee, extremely proud. Rakhee, who watched the movie in a theatre, said that she was happy to see many youngsters among the audience, seeing the film in rapt attention.
The senior actress also said what Bosky (Meghna’s pet name) has achieved is not easy, as she has stayed true to the story while also making it cinematic. ‘Chhapaak’, she said, has made her proud of her daughter.
Interestingly, Rakhee did not watch any preview of the film, which were held for Meghna’s family and friends. Wondering why? Well, Rakhee wanted to watch the film on its release date with the public, as she believes that their feedback is the most honest. She also took along members of her staff to see their reaction.
