A day after anti-CAA protests gained momentum across the nation, an FIR has been registered against 600 people who participated in a protest held in Chennai. Among the 600 named in the FIR, actor Siddharth, singer TM Krishna, MP Thirumavalavanand Americai Narayanan have also been booked. The 600 concerned people are accused of “unlawful assembly” and “staging protest” defying orders at Valluvar Kottam in Chennai on Thursday.
Siddharth, however, is yet to respond to the FIR.
Siddharth, who has been active on social media in expressing his views against the Citizenship Amendment Act and the police’s alleged violent ways to control the situation, had urged the citizens to register protests.
In a tweet on Thursday, the actor had written, “Register your protest. Your voice MATTERS! Stand tall for our plurality and secularism. #India needs your voice.#CAA #NRC.”
The actor had also informed that he had been receiving threats on social media. Siddharth alleged that the Twitter handles from which the threats were coming his way, were followed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He had tweeted, “I’m getting tweet threats for me and my loved ones to be fixed, arrested etc. from several handles that are followed by PM @narendramodi. We are trying to speak our minds in a free country. Ugly words and draconian laws will not choke voices of dissent. We will prevail! Jai Hind.”
